National parks in Michigan
Every national park and public-land unit in Michigan, scored and ranked by our Experience Score.
Michigan's National Park Service units tend to pay off most for people willing to earn the view, whether that means paddling out to sandstone cliffs, grinding through a remote island trail, or standing in real darkness under a sky jammed with stars. The collection tilts heavily toward the Upper Peninsula and the state's dramatic lakeshores, where Pictured Rocks, Isle Royale, and Sleeping Bear Dunes rise to the top as high-scoring destinations built around Lake Superior and Lake Michigan frontage, wilderness camping, and some of the best stargazing anywhere in the Midwest. The North Country National Scenic Trail runs through the state as a long-distance backbone for serious hikers, while Seney and Shiawassee offer quieter, wildlife-focused escapes for birders and paddlers who prefer a slower pace. Two more grounded units round out the mix: the industrial heritage of Keweenaw and the early American history of River Raisin, which give families and history-minded visitors a real way into the collection.
