National parks in Nevada

Nevada's National Park Service sites offer two distinct travel experiences. Death Valley National Park and Lake Mead National Recreation Area are in the south. They are known for their desert landscapes, stargazing, and camping options along one of the West's large reservoir systems. Northeast in the state, Great Basin National Park is a high-elevation area. It provides stargazing and backcountry hiking opportunities, but with fewer visitors than the southern parks. Three National Historic Trails overlap these parks and cross the state. These are the California, Pony Express, and Old Spanish routes. They offer scenic drives and historical points of interest. Nevada appeals to those who appreciate solitude, dark skies, and open roads between destinations.
