Steinaker State Park: our verdict
Steinaker is a workhorse reservoir park sitting just outside Vernal, Utah, and it earns its keep by doing several things competently rather than one thing spectacularly.
The warm summer water draws boaters and paddlers without the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds of bigger Utah destinations. Add in OHV access to nearby trails, winter recreation options, and solid camping infrastructure, and you have a genuinely versatile stopover. It is not a destination park, but as a flexible, low-key base camp in the Uinta Basin it punches above its modest size.
Who it suits
Best for families or groups with mixed interests, especially those combining a reservoir day with OHV riding. Anglers, paddlers, and campers who want warm water without a reservation battle will feel at home. Scenery-first travelers or hikers expecting trail networks should look elsewhere.

The Experience Score measures what a unit documents and how reachable it is. From the NPS: Only a few miles from nearby Vernal are multiple gateways to some of the region's best adventures. For a little bit of everything, consider Steinaker State Park. If you enjoy fishing you should definitely put it on the list. If you like water sports, the warm summer water and lack of crowds will put a smile on your face when the weather gets hot. The park also is popular with ATV/OHV enthusiasts and now accesses some popular local doubletrack trails. Ride north on the campground entrance road to a trailhead. This route takes you to the moderate Doc’s Beach and the advanced Red Mountain. Alternatively, get out the GPS and track down the park's three geocaches. Steinaker is the perfect location for multiple outdoor activities for people of all ages and abilities. In the winter, enjoy ice fishing, dry and electric only campsites, cross country skiing, ice skating, and OHV riding. Make a reservation on the Utah State Parks reservation site .
