Gunlock State Park in Utah offers water activities year-round. You can boat, fish, or swim in Gunlock Reservoir. Picnics are also possible on the beach. Its mild winter climate and warm summer waters make it accessible all year.
A county road following the Old Spanish Trail reaches the park. This historic route was used by horsemen and raiders between Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Los Angeles from the 1820s until 1849. After 1849, the gold fields became the primary destination, and a shorter route was adopted.
Nearby St. George provides amenities like championship golf courses and outlet shopping, benefiting from southwestern Utah's warm climate. From Gunlock, you can head south on Old 91 to the Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area, home to North America's northernmost Joshua Trees. Alternatively, an eastward journey leads to the Santa Clara River Reserve or Snow Canyon State Park. Zion National Park is a 90-minute drive east.
The park has five first-come, first-served campsites in a campground with a vault toilet. Beach camping is also allowed. There are no reservable campsites.
