From the NPS: Cache River National Wildlife Refuge (Cache River NWR), located near the towns of Augusta and Brinkley, Arkansas , stands as a testament to nature's unparalleled beauty and biodiversity. Established in 1986, this refuge was born out of a commitment to safeguard, restore, and enhance wetland ecosystems, making it a sanctuary for migratory birds and a haven for diverse fish and wildlife. As a Wetland of International Importance and part of the Cache-Lower White Rivers Globally Important Bird Area, Cache River NWR boasts world-class waterfowl hunting opportunities and a wealth of recreational activities. The refuge encompasses approximately 73,000 acres scattered along the Cache River, White River, and Bayou DeView. The Basin is a breathtaking tapestry of meandering channels, shallow sloughs, and oxbow lakes. This diverse landscape provides a vital home to various species of neotropical migratory birds, wading birds, shorebirds, and other native wildlife. Visitors to Cache River NWR can partake in various activities, from world-class waterfowl and white-tailed deer hunting to excellent fishing opportunities for crappie, bream, and catfish. Boating along the Bayou DeView Water Trail offers a unique perspective of the refuge's old-growth stands of baldcypress-water tupelo and abundant wildlife.
