Betty's Kitchen Watchable Wildlife Viewing Area and National Recreation Trail sits along Arizona's lower Colorado River. This shady area supports diverse birds, plants, and other wildlife. It's a good spot for nature observation, picnicking, and fishing.
The 0.5-mile interpretive trail was designated a National Recreation Trail in 1993. This desert oasis hosts Mexican free-tail bats, giant hairy scorpions, desert spiny lizards, coachwhip snakes, and southwestern willow flycatchers. Spring migration, in April and May, is the best time for birdwatching.
The site has two picnic tables. Grills and fire pits are not available. Small watercraft launching is also unavailable.
The area is named after a small riverside café from the 1930s. Local resident Betty Davidson operated it. Her café served anglers, travelers, and workers. It became a gathering spot near Laguna Dam.
